In the near future, fuel cells driven by vehicle fuel will supply the on-board systems more efficiently with electricity than the alternator. This concept is known as APU (auxiliary power unit). Fuel cells which are driven by hydrogen or other conventional fuels, will soon guarantee the operation of the vehicle.
